One teen dead and one critically injured in Miami crash early Wednesday morning

One teenager has been killed and another critically injured after a crash in Miami early Wednesday morning.
The accident temporarily shut down a section of the road in southwest Miami-Dade county after a car crashed and flipped into overpass pillars around 3:00 a.m., according to reporting by 7News Miami.
Miami-Dade police officers received reports of a suspicious vehicle, later identified as an Audi, in the area, department spokesperson Alvaro Zabaleta shared with the affiliate.
The occupants of the Audi, a 15-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl, attempted to speed out of the area when police activated their lights.
“The driver lost control of the vehicle, striking one of the concrete pillars that are underneath the overpass on the turnpike, causing that car to flip to its side. This affects the entire community knowing that an adolescent lost his life instead of being in school today,” Zabaleta told the affiliate.
The family of the 15-year-old driver has been notified of his death and the 14-year-old passenger has been flown to a nearby hospital to treat critical injuries.
Investigators believe the teens were in the area either dropping off or visiting other acquaintances, according to CBS Miami. It's unclear whether the teenage boy had his permit or why he was out that late to begin with, police shared.
